Role Purpose

The Managing Director (MD) serves as the strategic leader and operational architect of the organization. This role is responsible for translating the Board's vision into actionable strategies, ensuring financial sustainability, and overseeing the day-to-day execution of programs.

The MD will lead a diverse team to maximize social impact while maintaining high standards of governance and transparency. This position is open to expatriates or foreign candidates who are capable of international travel and have strong donor engagement experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic plans aligned with the organization's mission and long-term goals
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish priorities and evaluate organizational performance
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, growth, and program development
  • Serve as the primary liaison between staff and the Board
  • Ensure compliance with local and international laws and ethical standards

Operational Management

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across departments
  • Manage budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation
  • Supervise staff and volunteers while fostering a productive work environment
  • Implement monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks to measure social impact
  • Ensure operational efficiency and policy compliance

Program Oversight

  • Ensure successful planning, execution, and evaluation of programs and services
  • Monitor program outcomes and implement improvements
  • Support program managers in achieving objectives and maintaining quality standards

Fundraising & Development

  • Lead fundraising initiatives including grant writing, donor relations, and event planning
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners
  • Ensure transparency and accountability in financial stewardship
  • Oversee annual budgets and financial controls
  • Develop corporate partnerships and diversified fundraising strategies

Community and Stakeholder Development

  • Represent the organization at public forums, media engagements, and community events
  • Build relationships with government agencies, NGOs, and stakeholders
  • Advocate for the organization's mission and conservation causes

Governance and Compliance

  • Ensure legal, ethical, and regulatory compliance
  • Prepare reports and documentation for the Board and regulatory bodies
  • Maintain organizational policies and procedures

Social Responsibilities

  • Promote environmental awareness initiatives such as recycling and waste management
  • Develop outreach programs for schools and communities with Board involvement

Candidate Requirements:

Experiences:

Minimum 10 years of experience in one or more of the following:

  • Fundraising
  • Non-profit / NGO management
  • Aquatic or animal conservation

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong leadership and operational management skills
  • Hands-on management approach with passion for the organization's mission
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively
  • Experience working in Cambodia or Southeast Asia is preferred
  • Understanding of regional labor laws is an advantage
  • Fluency in English is required; additional languages are a plus

Work Conditions:

  • Extensive international travel required
  • Valid passport required
  • Minimum 45 working hours per week
  • May require work during evenings, weekends, and holidays
