Role Introduction
The Manager – Technical Services Maintenance is responsible for the hands-on maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of all technical systems across Kai Tak Sports Park, including AV over IP networks, digital signage, LED screens, broadcast infrastructure, and venue IT integrations. This is a highly technical, hands-on role where the manager will spend approximately 70% of their time directly maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, with 30% dedicated to team leadership and coordination. The manager will work alongside and provide guidance to an engineer and network engineer, ensuring systems are maintained to the highest standards and supporting seamless operations for sports, entertainment, and community events.
Key Responsibilities
Hands-on Technical Work (70%)
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on LED screens, video walls, digital signage, and audiovisual systems
- Diagnose and repair faults in LED screen panels, modules, and control systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues affecting audiovisual equipment, digital displays, and content management systems (CMS)
- Configure and maintain AV over IP networks, including switching, routing, VLAN configuration, and QoS policies
- Monitor system performance, bandwidth utilization, and latency across AV networks
- Conduct hands-on testing and calibration of AV equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Install, configure, and maintain network equipment including switches, routers, and fiber optic components
- Document network topologies, IP addressing schemes, and configuration standards
- Perform firmware and software updates on AV hardware and network equipment
- Provide technical support during event setup, live operations, and breakdown, including after-hours and weekends
- Coordinate with broadcast partners and production companies to establish temporary connections for live events
- Carry out regular system assessments and performance monitoring
- Maintain detailed maintenance logs and service records
Management & Leadership (30%)
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical direction to the engineer and network engineer
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules and standards for AV, IT, and broadcast systems
- Manage inventory of technical equipment and spare parts, ensuring adequate stock levels
- Coordinate vendor relationships for specialized repairs and technical support
- Ensure compliance with venue IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and industry regulations
- Liaise with the venue IT department to ensure proper integration between AV networks and corporate infrastructure
- Plan capacity requirements and recommend upgrades or enhancements
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team
- Share knowledge of emerging technologies and industry standards (e.g., SMPTE ST 2110, sACN, Dante)
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or Higher Diploma in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, or related technical field
- 6–8 years of hands-on experience in technical services, AV maintenance, or network engineering
- Proven experience with LED screen repair, diagnostics, and maintenance
- Strong practical experience in AV over IP implementations and large-scale venue or broadcast environments
- Expert knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, multicast, IGMP, PTP, VLAN) and AV standards (SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante)
- Hands-on proficiency in configuring enterprise-grade network equipment (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper)
- Working knowledge of fibre optic systems, cable termination, and broadcast video formats
- Experience with digital signage systems and content management platforms
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and performance analysis software
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CTS, or manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., LED screen manufacturers) preferred
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with ability to resolve complex technical issues under pressure
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders
- Physical capability to work in technical spaces, work at height, and lift equipment up to 25kg
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as events require
