Role Introduction
The Engineer - AV Network is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure that supports all audiovisual and digital signage systems throughout Kai Tak Sports Park. This role will ensure robust, scalable, and secure network connectivity for AV over IP solutions, streaming services, and digital content distribution across the venue. The position requires expertise in network architecture, AV networking protocols, and system integration to deliver seamless audiovisual experiences during events and daily operations. This role will work closely with IT, Technical Services, Operations, and external broadcast partners to maintain optimal network performance for all AV applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement network infrastructure specifically for AV over IP systems, including switching, routing, and VLAN configuration for audiovisual applications.
- Configure and maintain dedicated AV networks supporting video distribution, digital signage content delivery, and real-time streaming applications.
- Monitor network performance and bandwidth utilization for AV systems, implementing optimization strategies to ensure low-latency transmission.
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues affecting audiovisual equipment, digital displays, and content management systems.
- Implement and maintain network security protocols specific to AV systems while ensuring compliance with venue IT policies.
- Collaborate with broadcast partners and external production companies to establish temporary network connections for live events.
- Document network topologies, IP addressing schemes, and configuration standards for AV network infrastructure.
- Manage Quality of Service (QoS) policies to prioritize AV traffic and ensure consistent performance during high-demand periods.
- Coordinate with the Digital Content team to optimize content delivery networks and streaming performance.
- Maintain network equipment inventory including switches, routers, media converters, and fiber optic components.
- Perform regular network assessments and capacity planning to support future AV system expansions.
- Provide technical support for network-related issues during live events and productions.
- Stay current with emerging AV networking technologies and industry standards (SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante, etc.).
- Train technical staff on AV networking concepts and troubleshooting procedures.
- Liaise with venue IT department to ensure proper integration between AV networks and corporate infrastructure.
- Participate in event setup and breakdown as required, including after-hours and weekend events.
- Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, or related technical field.
- 4+ years of experience in network engineering with specific focus on AV over IP implementations.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols including TCP/IP, multicast, IGMP, PTP, and VLAN configuration.
- Experience with AV networking standards such as SMPTE ST 2110, NDI, Dante, or similar technologies.
- Proficiency in configuring enterprise-grade network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Aruba, or Juniper.
- Working knowledge of fiber optic systems, including single-mode and multi-mode installations.
- Experience with network monitoring tools and performance analysis software.
- Understanding of broadcast video formats, codecs, and streaming protocols.
- Familiarity with content management systems and digital signage network requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to diagnose complex network issues quickly.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CTS-I, or manufacturer-specific certifications preferred.
- Physical capability to work in technical spaces and lift equipment up to 25kg when necessary.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as events require.
- Experience in large-scale venue or broadcast environments is highly desirable.
