Estimator Special Projects

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to join the Special Projects division. The successful candidate will focus on accurately estimating the costs of mechanical systems for tenant improvements, renovations, and other unique, fast-paced projects, ensuring competitive and successful bids.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate cost estimates for projects ranging from $50,000 to multimillion-dollar values.

• Analyze project plans, specifications, proposals, and site conditions to produce comprehensive time, cost, material, and labour estimates.

• Manage the tender process, including coordinating with sub-trades and suppliers for pricing.

• Perform detailed quantity take-offs for mechanical systems.

• Identify and evaluate risks, challenges, and opportunities in occupied or existing structures.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with sub-trades, suppliers, and clients.

• Prepare complete and accurate tender proposal packages.

• Price site instructions and change requests quickly and effectively.

• Collaborate with project managers during pre-construction and ensure smooth handovers after project award.

• Maintain estimating databases and historical metrics, tracking bidding success rates and performance within the division.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3+ years of proven experience as an Estimator in the mechanical contracting industry; Special Projects experience is an asset.

• Proficiency with AutoBid estimating software (Trimble experience preferred).

• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems.

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

• Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple bids simultaneously.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with internal teams, clients, and vendors.

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.

• Relevant post-secondary education or trade certification is considered an asset.
