Job Summary:
The FP&A Analyst will play a key role in supporting the firm's financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes. This individual will collaborate with academic departments and administrative offices to provide data-driven financial insights, enabling effective decision-making to achieve the institution's financial and strategic goals. The FP&A Analyst will ensure the financial sustainability of the university by analyzing trends, managing budgets, and supporting strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develop, maintain, and enhance the annual budget and periodic forecasts. Coordinate with various departments to gather input, analyze variances, and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
- Financial Analysis: Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual financial analyses to monitor actual performance against budget and forecasts. Provide variance analysis, identify trends, and offer actionable recommendations for financial improvement.
- Strategic Planning Support: Work closely with senior leadership to develop and refine long-term financial strategies. Assist with scenario planning, feasibility studies for new initiatives, and investment in programs to ensure alignment with the universitys mission.
- Reporting: Prepare regular financial reports, including variance analysis and financial dashboards for leadership, the Board of Trustees, and external stakeholders. Provide insights and commentary to facilitate understanding of key financial metrics.
- Data Management: Collaborate with IT and data teams to optimize financial data systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Support the maintenance of financial models, including forecasting and reporting tools.
- Expense Management: Partner with department heads to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation. Monitor capital expenditures and track major project costs to support budget compliance.
- Grant and Endowment Reporting: Assist in managing financial reporting for grants and endowment funds, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and donor restrictions.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements in FP&A functions, ensuring efficient and effective workflows. Identify and implement best practices in financial planning and analysis.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field. CPA, CFA, or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of FP&A experience, preferably in the education, nonprofit, or public sector.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis tools. Advanced knowledge of Excel and familiarity with financial software (e.g., Workday, SAP, Adaptive Insights).
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail, capable of interpreting complex financial data and providing clear recommendations.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
- Soft Skills: Collaborative, proactive, and able to work effectively across multiple departments in a dynamic environment.
