About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established architecture, engineering, and design firm with a strong corporate office presence, is hiring a Controller to lead their accounting function. This individual will oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance department, provide guidance to a small team, and support leadership with financial analysis and reporting needed to drive critical business decisions.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident in financial reporting and management. They should also be an excellent communicator with the ability to balance strategic oversight with the practical execution of accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small finance team (AP/Payroll Specialist and Project Accountant), ensuring training, development, and cross-training opportunities

• Manage accurate month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of management reports with KPI analysis

• Support the annual budgeting process and deliver variance and forecast analyses to leadership

• Oversee cash flow, including weekly cash needs, banking transactions, and management of payables and receivables

• Administer and monitor banking relationships and corporate accounts

• Review payroll processing and related general ledger entries prepared by team members

• Provide project-level reporting and analysis to support project managers and executives

• Partner with external tax advisors for preparation of corporate filings

• Manage business insurance renewals and compliance

• Track fixed assets and coordinate with outside CPA firm on updates and disposals

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and streamline workflows

• Deliver ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed

What Youll Bring

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience across general ledger, AR/AP, project accounting, forecasting, and budgeting

• Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and financial principles

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems

• Experience with project accounting and reporting in a professional services setting

• CPA preferred (not required)

• Previous experience with Deltek VantagePoint or similar systems a plus

• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across teams

• Commitment to ethical practices and relationship management
