The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Transport Planner to join our transport services team. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient and effective planning of transport routes for our SEN and adult social care clients. The Transport Planner will be responsible for developing optimal travel routes, considering factors such as client needs, vehicle capacity, travel times, and safety protocols.

This position requires a blend of analytical skills, geographical knowledge, and a deep understanding of the needs of individuals with special educational needs and those requiring adult social care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimise transport routes for a specific area covering SEN Home-To-School and Adult Social Care services, ensuring efficient and timely transportation for all clients.
  • Work closely with care teams, families, and schools to understand client needs and preferences, incorporating these into route planning.
  • Utilise route planning software and tools to create and adjust routes as needed, considering traffic patterns, roadworks, and other logistical challenges.
  • Coordinate with drivers and transport coordinators to communicate route plans, changes, and updates effectively.
  • Monitor and review the effectiveness of transport routes, making adjustments based on feedback, changes in client needs, or logistical challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transport regulations and safety standards.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices in transport planning and safety.


Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in route planning, logistics, or a related field, preferably within a health and social care context.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to optimise routes for efficiency and reliability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in route planning software and geographical information systems (GIS).
  • Knowledge of transport regulations and safety standards relevant to SEN and adult social care.
  • A commitment to providing high-quality, client-focused transport solutions.
  • Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
