Overall Purpose of Role:

Lead and manage the Romanian subsidiary design function in support of projects delivered exclusively for the UK business, ensuring robust allocation, coordination, review and delivery of façade design information across multiple live projects.

Act as the principal design management lead within the Romanian subsidiary, receiving project briefs from the UK business, assessing scope, complexity, programme and resource requirements, and allocating work to the Senior Designer and Designers accordingly.

Work in close liaison with the Regional Design Manager in the UK and with wider UK teams to ensure design outputs are progressively developed, reviewed and delivered in accordance with project requirements, internal quality procedures, and applicable UK legislative and regulatory requirements.

Undertake structured UK-based training and continued professional development to build competence in UK Building Regulations, HRB and non-HRB requirements, digital information management and Golden Thread principles.

Support the establishment, training, development and ongoing competency of the Romanian subsidiary design team, recognising that team members may bring strong Romanian and EU façade design experience but will initially require structured training and support in UK legislation, Building Regulations, Higher-Risk Building (HRB) requirements, gateway processes and the Golden Thread.

Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, continuous improvement and professional development within the Romanian subsidiary, aligned with the standards, systems and expectations of the UK company.

Specific Responsibilities:

Overall responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Romanian subsidiary design team, ensuring effective resource planning, workload allocation and design management.
  • Receive design briefs, priorities and delivery requirements from the UK business and assess the appropriate allocation of work based on complexity, risk, programme and team capability.
  • Manage and oversee the preparation, review and amendment of design documentation, drawings, schedules and supporting technical information for assigned UK projects.
  • Liaise closely with the Regional Design Manager and other UK stakeholders to ensure design outputs satisfy project requirements, client expectations and internal review procedures.
  • Support statutory and procedural compliance associated with design work undertaken for UK projects, including the gradual embedding of knowledge relating to UK Building Regulations, HRB and non-HRB requirements, and associated approval, review and information management processes.
  • Champion accurate digital record-keeping and traceability of design decisions, revisions, comments and approvals in line with company systems and Golden Thread principles as adopted by the UK business.
  • Establish and maintain quality control and peer review procedures within the Romanian subsidiary to promote accurate, coordinated and compliant design deliverables.
  • Appraise, support and develop direct reports to ensure competency growth, successful onboarding into UK company procedures, and completion of agreed training plans.
  • Represent the Romanian subsidiary design function in project meetings, coordination meetings and internal management discussions as required.
  • Support the department by temporarily undertaking ad hoc duties as required.

Operational responsibilities

  • Manage, appraise and develop design staff within the Romanian subsidiary, overseeing induction, training, performance reviews and progression planning.
  • Coordinate multiple design projects issued from the UK business, ensuring consistent resource allocation, programme awareness and technical oversight.
  • Review and approve design deliverables before issue to the UK business or other authorised stakeholders, in accordance with internal approval procedures.
  • Coordinate with UK-based commercial, contracts, procurement, health and safety, design coordination and project teams to ensure that design information is aligned with delivery needs.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and standardisation across the Romanian subsidiary while allowing for project-specific requirements.
  • Support implementation of UK company systems, including common data environment platforms and controlled document management processes.
  • Monitor design quality and compliance trends, identify training gaps, and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement measures.
  • Liaise with consultants, manufacturers, architects, specialist suppliers and other stakeholders relevant to assigned design packages.
  • Attend the UK office and project sites for initial and ongoing training, coordination, audits and technical reviews as required by the role.
  • Where required by the company, attend UK-based training sessions, meetings and company visits to support understanding of buildability, design intent, installation interfaces and quality expectations.
  • Maintain and develop practical working knowledge of applicable UK regulatory and technical requirements relevant to the company’s projects.
  • Support the UK company’s compliance processes and Principal Designer interfaces where required, whilst not acting as the formal statutory duty-holder for those UK appointments.
