What Does an Industrial Painter Do?

The industrial painter performs several activities, including washing, basic rigging, paint prepping, painting, general maintenance etc on parts, steel, aluminum, and equipment.

The industrial painter job description involves selecting the appropriate tools necessary to execute a job.

They utilize a variety of techniques and tools in painting surfaces, so they must make an accurate selection from tools like spray equipment, airbrushes, stencils, rollers, and brushes.

They are also responsible for prepping the substrate for paint by applying a mechanical etch (sanding/media-blasting), washing the substrate with a chemical etching solution (Alumi-Prep/Phosphate solution), and force drying the substrate with compressed air and fans.

Before applying paints on the designated surfaces, the industrial painter is responsible for preparing the paints to be used.

They may utilize equipment such as viscosity cups, thickness gages, and gloss gages to verify the makeup of the paint and use their knowledge of the job to mix the paint to specification.

The industrial painter work description also entails prioritizing work in order as needed, guaranteeing their own safety on the job by utilizing special safety equipment such as self-contained suits or protective eyewear, as well as performing cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work area.
