Position Summary for Fractional HR SpecialistThe HR Specialist provides professional-level support in all areas of human resources for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, a non-profit agency. This role is responsible for employee onboarding, maintaining personnel records, coordinating HR compliance activities, and managing the relationship with the organizations Professional Employer Organization (PEO). The position ensures HR processes align with organizational values and legal standards while supporting a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
#1 PEO Relationship Management (This is my top priority)
· Serve as the primary liaison between the agency and the PEO for payroll, benefits, and HR compliance matters.
· Monitor PEO service delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of HR transactions.
· Collaborate with the PEO to resolve employee benefits, payroll, and compliance issues.
· Review and reconcile PEO invoices and reports.
#2 Key Responsibilities General HR Administration (This is my 2nd priority)
· Maintain and update employee records, job descriptions, and HR documents.
· Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
· Assist in developing and implementing HR policies and procedures.
· Prepare HR reports and metrics for leadership review.
· Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits, policies, and procedures.
#3 Employee Relations and Support (This can be a gradual integration.)
· Provide guidance to staff and supervisors on HR-related matters.
· Assist in conflict resolution and promote a respectful workplace culture.
· Support staff engagement initiatives and recognition programs, through active participation in Employee Engagement Committee (EEC) initiatives.
· Regularly staff the front desk reception area, providing HR access to staff while relieving Operations team members to participate in other BBBSCI programming.
#4 Onboarding and Offboarding (This can be a gradual integration. We will not be hiring any new roles, but may be doing some role shifting in the next year or so.)
· Coordinate the onboarding process for new hires, including background checks, orientation scheduling, and documentation.
· Ensure all new employee paperwork is completed accurately and submitted to the PEO.
· Facilitate smooth offboarding processes, including exit interviews and final documentation.
· Support hiring managers in creating a positive and efficient onboarding experience.
