One of our International Oilfield Services client is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer (EPC) to be based in Cairo, Egypt

Position Overview: The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and execution of all electrical engineering activities across the EPC project lifecycle from concept and detailed design through procurement, construction, and commissioning. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, review, and approve electrical design deliverables, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), load lists, cable schedules, equipment layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare and review equipment data sheets, specifications, and design calculations for transformers, switchgear, MCCs, UPS systems, lighting, earthing, and power distribution systems.
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, motor starting, arc flash, and protection coordination studies using software such as ETAP, SKM, or similar.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, ANSI, API).
  • Support interface management between electrical systems and other engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, instrumentation, civil, and control systems).
  • Prepare and review technical requisitions, datasheets, and material requisitions for electrical equipment.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations (TBEs) and vendor document reviews to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Liaise with vendors and suppliers to clarify technical queries and ensure timely delivery of engineering documentation.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), inspection, and equipment certification activities.
  • Provide technical support during installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Review and approve as-built drawings, redlines, and test procedures.
  • Respond to site technical queries (TQs/RFIs) and coordinate with construction teams to resolve field issues efficiently.
  • Support energization, system testing, and turnover documentation to client operations.
  • Ensure electrical design aligns with project schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Implement HSE design principles, including electrical safety, arc-flash mitigation, and safe isolation practices.
  • Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and HAZOP/HAZID studies to identify and mitigate electrical risks.
  • Contribute to energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives within the project, in line with company goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (Masters preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering within EPC, oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or industrial projects.
  • Proven experience in three phases system design, power distribution, and electrical protection systems.
  • Hands on experience with electrical analysis software (ETAP, SKM, CYME, EasyPower, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of construction practices, installation methods, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Solid understanding of international standards and regulations (IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA, API, etc.).
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office, SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), and related engineering tools.
