About the job Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our client in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) space. This role focuses on the evaluation, design, and diagnostics of mechanical systems in both residential and commercial properties. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in piping and HVAC systems and enjoy working on a mix of field investigations, design consultation, and technical reporting. Applicants must be residing in Hawaii at the time of application.
Responsibilities:

Perform site investigations and diagnostics of failed or underperforming mechanical systems, including HVAC and piping (domestic water, sewer, gas).

Lead or assist in root cause analysis and laboratory-based evaluations, including simulations and disassembly of components.

Support system redesign efforts, drafting modifications, and retrofits for multi-unit residential and commercial buildings.

Ensure all designs and recommendations are aligned with current code requirements (e.g., UPC, IBC).

Analyze and interpret construction drawings; propose changes or improvements where needed.

Collaborate with project stakeholders including engineers, architects, and field teams to ensure cohesive solutions.

Develop detailed technical reports summarizing findings from investigations, testing, and evaluations.

Provide expert guidance on system performance, maintenance, and long-term repair strategies.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (advanced degree a plus).

PE license or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months.

5-10+ years of experience in HVAC or piping system design, analysis, or diagnostics.

Strong understanding of material properties and failure mechanisms.

Effective communicator, able to present complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Previous experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to clients or internal teams.

Familiarity with construction codes, mechanical standards, and field testing procedures.

Comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.

Project management experience is a strong advantage.
