Job Purpose
On behalf of our client in the coffee business, we are seeking for a passionate and results - driven Trading Manager who will lead the company's global coffee trading strategy, driving revenue growth, profitability, and market expansion across Sudan, the Middle East, Europe, and China. The role is responsible for end-to-end trading operations from sourcing and contract negotiation to export execution while positioning the company as a preferred supplier of high-quality Ugandan Arabica and Robusta coffee in international markets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Trading Leadership
- Develop and execute the company's international coffee trading strategy aligned with business growth objectives.
- Identify high-potential markets and establish sustainable market entry and expansion plans.
- Drive profitability through effective pricing strategies, margin optimization, and volume growth.
- Advise senior management on global coffee trends, risks, and opportunities.
International Market Development
- Lead business development efforts across Sudan, the Middle East, Europe, and China.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with key buyers, roasters, distributors, and trading houses.
- Position Sena Indo Uganda as a reliable, high-quality coffee exporter in competitive global markets.
- Represent the company in international trade fairs, exhibitions, and client engagements.
Trading & Commercial Execution
- Oversee negotiation and execution of high-value coffee export contracts.
- Manage the full trade lifecycle including pricing, contracting, shipment, and payment collection.
- Monitor international coffee markets (including ICE and global benchmarks) and guide trading decisions.
- Ensure adherence to contractual obligations and international trade standards.
Supply Chain & Sourcing Oversight
- Provide leadership in sourcing strategy, working closely with procurement teams, farmer groups, and cooperatives.
- Ensure consistent supply of high-quality coffee that meets international buyer specifications.
- Oversee quality assurance processes including grading, cupping, and certifications.
- Align supply capabilities with market demand forecasts.
Export Operations & Compliance
- Ensure efficient coordination of export logistics including shipping schedules, documentation, and customs compliance.
- Oversee preparation and accuracy of export documentation (contracts, invoices, certificates of origin, quality certificates, bills of lading).
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in Uganda and destination markets.
Risk & Financial Management
- Manage trading risks including price volatility, foreign exchange exposure, counterparty risk, and logistics disruptions.
- Implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies, including hedging where applicable.
- Monitor and control trading budgets, margins, and cost structures.
- Ensure timely payments, credit control, and financial reconciliation of trades.
Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Lead, mentor, and develop the trading and commercial team.
- Set performance targets and drive accountability across the team.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on results, integrity, and client satisfaction.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Provide regular reports to senior management on trading performance, market insights, and forecasts.
- Track competitor activities and emerging trends in global coffee markets.
- Use data-driven insights to refine trading strategies and decision-making.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Annual export revenue and profitability
- Growth in international client portfolio
- Market expansion in Sudan, Middle East, Europe, and China
- Trade execution efficiency (timeliness and accuracy)
- Gross margin per trade
- Risk management effectiveness
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Economics, Agriculture, or related field
- Master's degree (MBA or related) is an added advantage
- Minimum of 7–10 years' experience in coffee trading or agricultural commodities trading
- Proven track record in managing international markets, preferably in Africa, Middle East, Europe, or Asia
- Strong understanding of global coffee supply chains, pricing mechanisms, and export processes
- Strong strategic thinking and commercial acumen
- Advanced negotiation and deal-closing skills
- Deep understanding of international trade regulations and export logistics
- Financial analysis and risk management expertise
- Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills
- Strong leadership and team management capability
- Proficiency in English; Arabic or Mandarin is an added advantage
