Operations Manager

Lotus Group is excited to partner with a Western Canadian leader in geomatics and technical field services to find an Operations Manager based out of Sherwood Park, AB. They have been in business for over two decades, supporting some of Western Canada's most significant infrastructure and industrial projects with reliable field execution, precise data, and a commitment to quality, safety, and professional excellence.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and financially disciplined execution of all field operational activities across multiple service divisions. They will provide leadership in cost control, workforce planning, project delivery support, asset oversight, quality management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate daily field activities across all service lines, ensuring manpower, equipment, and resources are aligned with project needs.
  • Facilitate operational planning discussions, aligning workforce capacity, training, and skillsets with both current and upcoming project requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to track job progress, optimize labour utilization, and manage equipment and cost considerations, proactively addressing issues as they arise and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure effective allocation, maintenance, and tracking of fleet, equipment, and operational assets to maintain field readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Promote and uphold an adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards by supporting QA/QC initiatives, participating in field audits, and reinforcing compliance across operations.
  • Oversee the Non-Conformance Reporting (NCR) process, ensuring thorough investigations, root-cause analysis, and effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Lead performance management efforts by setting clear expectations, conducting evaluations, addressing gaps, and supporting the development of supervisors and field personnel.
  • Identify inefficiencies or operational bottlenecks and drive process improvement initiatives designed to streamline workflows, strengthen SOPs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Utilize operational data and KPIs to inform decision-making, track performance trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion a culture grounded in accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and high standards of execution across all teams.

Role Requirements:

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Business/Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in operations, project delivery, or field services leadership (construction, civil infrastructure, engineering, or similar).
  • 3–5+ years of direct supervisory or operational leadership experience.
  • PMP or P. Eng. designation is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Project Managers, supervisors, and multi-disciplinary teams in operational environments.
  • Solid understanding of project execution processes within construction and/or field-based service settings.
  • Proven track record of driving accountability, leading teams effectively, and balancing multiple operational priorities at once.
  • Comfortable working with a range of software platforms, scheduling tools, and resource planning systems.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with cost control, forecasting, and KPI monitoring.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to lead teams and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
