Burner and Furnace Technician

Macrotec Engineering is a leading South African manufacturer of high-temperature process equipment, serving clients globally. We specialize in the design and manufacture of incinerators, product recovery furnaces, cremators, and flue gas filtration systems.

We are seeking a skilled Burner and Furnace Technician to join our technical services team. The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting our high-temperature process equipment both at our factory and at client sites worldwide. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and excellent customer service skills. The position is based in Ballito, RSA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Commissioning

• Perform complete commissioning of incinerators, furnaces, cremators, and associated equipment at our factory prior to shipment
• Conduct on-site commissioning at client locations, ensuring equipment meets all operational specifications
• Execute start-up procedures, safety checks, and performance testing
• Train client operators on proper equipment operation and basic maintenance procedures

Maintenance and Service

• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on installed equipment at client sites
• Perform troubleshooting and repairs on burner systems, control panels, and furnace components
• Replace worn or damaged parts including refractory materials, burner components, and control system components
• Maintain detailed service records and reports for all site visits

Technical Support

• Provide remote and on-site technical assistance to clients experiencing operational issues
• Diagnose equipment problems via phone/email/online monitoring and guide clients through basic troubleshooting steps
• Collaborate with engineering team to resolve complex technical challenges
• Assist in developing maintenance schedules and procedures for various equipment types

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Millwright OR Qualified Electrician
• Valid driver's license (Code B minimum)
• Willingness to travel
• Minimum 3 years' experience working with industrial combustion equipment, burners, or high-temperature processes

Technical Competencies

• Strong understanding of combustion principles and burner technology
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings
• Experience with PLC systems and industrial control panels
• Knowledge of gas and oil-fired burner systems
• Familiarity with safety protocols for high-temperature equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Gas installation certification (SAQCC Gas)
• Previous experience in equipment commissioning
• Valid passport for international travel
