Job Openings Chief Product Officer

About the job Chief Product Officer

Key Responsibilities

1. Product Vision & Strategy

  • The "Next" Instagram: Define and articulate a multi-year product strategy that keeps Instagram culturally relevant and competitive against emerging platforms (e.g., TikTok, YouTube Shorts).
  • Multi-Format Mastery: Oversee the evolution of our core surfaces: Reels (short-form video), Stories (ephemeral sharing), Feed (discovery), and Direct (messaging).
  • Threads & New Bets: Lead the strategy for Threads and other standalone apps or experimental features incubated within the Instagram team.

2. The Creator Economy

  • Monetization for All: Build tools that allow creators to earn a living, from subscriptions and badging to affiliate commerce and branded content marketplaces.
  • Original Content: Develop features that incentivize original creativity over resharing, ensuring Instagram remains the home of the worlds best visual storytellers.

3. Execution & Excellence

  • Ship with Velocity: Drive a culture of rapid experimentation and "shipping." Remove friction between Engineering, Design, and Product to ensure features launch smoothly and scale globally.
  • Algorithmic Integrity: oversee the recommendation systems (AI/ML) that power the Feed and Explore tabs, ensuring they deliver value and relevance while minimizing bias and "slop."

4. Safety, Well-being & Integrity

  • Youth Safety: Partner with Policy and Safety teams to build "Safety by Design." You will be personally accountable for features that protect teens and promote digital well-being (e.g., supervision tools, time-spent controls).
  • Information Integrity: Lead product interventions to reduce the spread of misinformation and coordinated inauthentic behavior without stifling free expression.

5. Leadership & Culture

  • Talent Magnet: Recruit, mentor, and retain world-class Product Managers and Designers.
  • Cross-Meta Collaboration: Collaborate with the WhatsApp and Messenger teams on interoperability, and with the Facebook team on cross-posting and shared infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: 15+ years of product leadership experience, with at least 5 years as a VP of Product or CPO at a consumer-facing technology company.
  • Scale: Proven ability to manage a product portfolio with 100M+ Daily Active Users (DAU). You must understand the complexities of serving a global, multilingual, and multicultural user base.
  • Mobile-First DNA: Deep expertise in mobile app mechanics, gestures, UI/UX patterns, and the iOS/Android ecosystem.
  • Data & Intuition: A mastery of data-driven decision-making (A/B testing, cohort analysis) balanced with strong product intuition and taste. You know when to trust the data and when to trust your gut.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Social & Video Expertise: Deep understanding of the mechanics of social graphs, viral loops, and short-form video consumption.
  • Gen Z Fluency: A strong grasp of the behavioral shifts in younger demographics and how they differ from Millennial/Gen X usage patterns.
  • Technical Depth: Ability to engage in deep technical debates with Engineering leadership regarding ML recommendation models and technical debt.

Success Metrics (Year 1)

  • Engagement: Increase Time Spent and Daily Active Users (DAU) across Reels and Threads.
  • Retention: stabilize and grow retention rates for the 18-24 demographic.
  • Creator Health: Increase the number of creators earning a meaningful wage through the platform.
