We are now seeking a Head of Mental Health (Clinical) Nurse to lead and develop our clinical services, ensuring best practice, compliance, and positive outcomes for our service users.

Role Overview

As the Head of Mental Health (Clinical), you will play a pivotal role in leading the clinical direction of our mental health services. You will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing clinical governance, quality assurance, and compliance with CQC standards.

  • Leading and managing a team of Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMNs) and support staff.

  • Designing and implementing evidence-based care pathways for individuals with complex needs.

  • Acting as the senior clinical point of contact for internal teams, external professionals, and regulators.

  • Driving continuous improvement in mental health provision, training, and safeguarding practices.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership across all mental health services.

  • Ensure care delivery meets CQC, NMC, NICE, and safeguarding standards.

  • Lead on the assessment, planning, and review of complex care packages.

  • Line-manage and mentor clinical staff, including RMNs and support workers.

  • Work in partnership with GPs, psychiatrists, local authorities, and external stakeholders.

  • Oversee medication management, risk assessments, and crisis interventions.

  • Lead audits, quality reviews, and implement action plans for service improvement.

  • Develop and deliver staff training on mental health, safeguarding, and best practice.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (Mental Health) qualification (RMN) with current NMC registration.
Minimum 5 years post-registration experience, including at least 2 years in a senior leadership/clinical management role.
Strong knowledge of CQC regulations, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and safeguarding frameworks.
Proven experience in developing care pathways for individuals with complex mental health needs.
Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team management skills.
Strong clinical assessment, risk management, and care planning abilities.
Ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, service users, families, and external agencies.
Highly organised, resilient, and committed to continuous improvement.

Desirable (Advantageous but not essential)

Masters level qualification in Mental Health, Leadership, or related field.
Experience in complex care or supported living settings.
Background in training delivery or clinical education.
