Job Role

The Fishery Operations Staff will be directly involved in the daily operational activities of sea-based fish farming facilities located around Hiburi Island. This is a highly hands-on and physically demanding role requiring strong discipline, adaptability, and willingness to work in outdoor maritime environments under varying weather conditions.

Working closely with experienced Japanese fishery professionals, the successful candidate will support feeding operations, fish health monitoring, sea-pen maintenance, harvesting activities, and overall operational upkeep of the aquaculture facilities. The role also requires active use of Japanese language communication during daily operational coordination and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily feeding operations and monitor fish growth within sea-pen farming facilities.
  • Perform fish health inspections and support water-condition monitoring activities.
  • Handle operational maintenance of nets, ropes, cages, and fishery equipment.
  • Operate high-pressure cleaning equipment and assist with sea-pen upkeep.
  • Support harvesting and processing activities while maintaining product freshness and operational quality standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of island facilities, storage areas, and operational tools.
  • Work collaboratively with Japanese field teams and follow operational safety procedures.
  • Participate in daily operational coordination and contribute to smooth fishery production activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent educational background.
  • Previous experience in fisheries, aquaculture, outdoor work, manual labor, agriculture, or related field operations is preferred.
  • Comfortable working on boats and in outdoor maritime environments under varying weather conditions.
  • Conversational Japanese proficiency (minimum JLPT N3/N2 level) is mandatory for daily communication and operational coordination.
  • Physically fit with strong stamina, balance, and the ability to repeatedly lift heavy equipment or materials.
  • Disciplined, hardworking, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Comfortable living in a remote island environment with limited urban facilities and entertainment.
  • Strong interest in nature-focused and simple countryside living in Japan.
  • Willingness to relocate long-term to Hiburi Island, Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, Japan.
