Client Overview

Our client is a publicly listed Indonesian mining contractor and infrastructure development company with extensive experience supporting mineral and mining operations across Indonesia. Since its early establishment in the late 1990s, the company has evolved into a major mining services provider delivering integrated mining operations, mine infrastructure development, logistics support, hauling, barging, transshipment, and rehabilitation services for both local and multinational mining companies.

The company has built a strong reputation in handling large-scale greenfield mining developments, particularly within Indonesia’s growing nickel industry. With active operations across multiple strategic mining regions, the organization continues to expand its operational footprint by delivering high-standard project execution, cost-efficient mining operations, and long-term infrastructure development under strict safety and operational governance frameworks.

Job Role

The Mining Project Manager – Nickel Operations is responsible for leading end-to-end mining project execution, with a strong focus on greenfield development, mine infrastructure construction, and production optimization. This role oversees the transition from early-stage land development and infrastructure setup into fully operational mining production while ensuring projects remain on schedule, within budget, and compliant with operational and safety standards.

The position requires a highly hands-on operational leader with strong mining contractor exposure, capable of managing fleet optimization, contractor coordination, production performance, and site development simultaneously. The role combines strategic project leadership with direct operational involvement across infrastructure, pit development, and mining production activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end mining operations including production scheduling, pit planning, fleet management, and operational execution.
  • Optimize fleet matching, equipment ratios, manpower allocation, and site productivity to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Monitor operational budgeting, cost-per-ton performance, forecasting, and financial efficiency across mining projects.
  • Coordinate closely with contractors, MDO teams, engineering departments, pit services, and local stakeholders to ensure project continuity.
  • Ensure all mining activities comply with HSE standards, mining regulations, and operational governance requirements.
  • Prepare accurate production, operational, and project milestone reports for senior management.
  • Drive operational improvements and proactively resolve technical or site-related challenges during project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or other related technical disciplines.
  • Professional mining certifications such as POP, POM, or POU are highly preferred.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in mining operations, including at least 3–5 years in managerial or project leadership roles.
  • Proven experience working within Mining Contractors is mandatory, especially under strict cost-control and operational P&L environments.
  • Strong experience handling Greenfield mining projects from early infrastructure development through production and shipping operations.
  • Background in Nickel mining or other mineral mining operations such as Copper, Gold, or Bauxite is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mine planning, pit sequencing, production optimization, and operational management.
  • Hands-on expertise in fleet matching, equipment ratio calculations, manpower planning, and mining cost analysis.
  • Strong leadership, contractor management, and stakeholder coordination capabilities.
  • Highly proactive, resilient, operationally hands-on, and capable of working in demanding mining environments.
  • Adequate English communication skills for technical coordination and operational reporting.
