About Mati Carbon

Mati Carbon is an XPRIZE-winning mission-driven global enterprise on an ambitious goal to boost smallholder farmer income and resilience, regenerate soil ecology, and durably remove carbon – all at no cost to the farmers. We deploy Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) and related technologies with a locally-led decentralized model across SE Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, and are rapidly scaling with the backing by a global coalition of leading research institutions, funders, and buyers – including the Yale University, JP Morgan, Shopify, Stripe, H&M Group, The Schmidt Family Foundation, Livelihood Impact Fund among others.

Role Overview

The planned hire will work directly with Mati's leadership across three critical priorities: corporate strategy, capital formation, and transaction execution. Functioning as the analytical and executional backbone for the senior leadership, you will prepare strategic business cases and investment materials, model capital structures, support fundraising processes, and manage complex transactions and partnerships. This is a high-visibility role for someone who combines rigorous financial skills with a genuine passion for purpose-driven work.

Key Responsibilities

Capital Formation

  1. Support the management in building and executing Mati's capital formation roadmap across the capital stack, e.g. multilateral debt, blended finance, and grant opportunities — including preparation of information memoranda, financial models, funding applications, and due diligence data rooms.
  2. Conduct financial modelling and scenario analysis to support capital structure decisions;
  3. Support funder engagement with the DFIs, Foundations, Multilaterals, Impact Investors, Commercial Lenders, Climate funds, Corporate Partners etc.
  4. Track and manage the fundraising pipeline, investor correspondence, and follow-up actions across active processes.

Transaction Execution & Partnerships

  1. Support execution of strategic transactions including partnership agreements, off-take contracts, MoUs, joint ventures, and M&A opportunities.
  2. Coordinate due diligence across legal, financial, technical, and operational workstreams; liaise with external advisors including legal counsel, auditors, and financial advisors.

Strategy Development

  1. Support the development and articulation of Mati's corporate strategy, including market entry, competitive positioning, and multi-year growth planning across geographies.
  2. Conduct in-depth research on carbon markets, climate policy, agri-input value chains, and the competitive landscape to inform strategic decisions. Prepare Board-ready strategy materials, briefing documents, and decision frameworks; monitor sector trends, regulatory developments, and peer activity.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 3–6 years of professional experience in structured finance, commercial lending, management consulting (financial advisory), investment banking, or private equity.
  • Demonstrable experience with financial modelling, transaction delivery, due diligence, or capital raising — ideally across multiple deal types or sectors.
  • Top-Tier MBA, Chartered Accountant (CA), CFA, or equivalent world-class postgraduate qualification strongly preferred.
  • Prior exposure to impact investing, climate finance, carbon markets, agricultural value chains, or ESG-aligned deal making is a significant advantage.
  • Experience working with or for DFIs, Multilaterals, or development-stage ventures is a plus.

Skills & Attributes

  • Outstanding analytical and financial modelling skills — comfortable with complex capital structures, sensitivity analysis, scenario planning and commercial lender relationships.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; able to distil complex ideas into compelling narratives for investors, partners, and leadership.
  • High ownership mindset — able to manage workstreams independently and deliver quality outputs under tight timelines.
  • Collaborative, low-ego team player; comfortable with ambiguity and the pace of a fast-growing startup.

Mission Alignment

  • A genuine passion for climate action, sustainable agriculture, or development impact — motivated by purpose as much as performance, and eager to contribute to institution-building at a critical stage of growth.
  • Alignment with Mati's values: farmer-first thinking, scientific integrity, operational excellence, and grounded ambition.

What We Offer

  • A rare opportunity to work at the strategic core of a high-growth, globally impactful climate venture — with direct exposure to the CXOs from day one.
  • A mission-first culture combining urgency, scientific rigour, and deep respect for the communities we serve.
  • An entrepreneurial opportunity to be part of the journey to scale an SME-level enterprise to a world-class global organisation.
  • Competitive compensation benchmarked to top operator peers, with performance-linked incentives and long-term upside participation.
  • Remote-first flexibility with meaningful opportunities for in-person engagement across Mati's field operations in India and beyond.
