Role Overview
We are looking for a dynamic and exceptional Data Scientist with a track record of technical excellence and a passion for contributing to climate change, food security, and small farmer resilience some of the biggest problems of our generation. This is not a routine data role you'll be building intelligent systems that model climate interactions, optimise geo-operations, and drive decision science in high-stakes environments. The role may involve frontier AI, advanced earth sciences, and high-performance computing to scale the worlds most natural and permanent carbon removal method.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize advanced programming skills in Python, R, and MATLAB to manipulate, analyze, and visualize large datasets.
- Design and implement machine learning models for predictive analytics, classification, clustering, and regression tasks including using tools for satellite imagery, soil chemistry, and agronomic data.
- Architect and scale data pipelines to ingest and analyze petabyte-scale earth observation and climate datasets. Optionally lead tasks to simulate, predict, and optimize geochemical and environmental phenomena.
- Collaborate with domain experts in agronomy, earth sciences, and climate modelling to guide experimental designs and field deployments.
- Leverage GIS and spatial analysis tools to guide carbon removal operations and validate carbon sequestration.
- Publish and present technical results to both internal and external stakeholders, including scientific communities and impact funders.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Bachelors, Masters, or PhD from IITs, IISc, or globally equivalent institutions in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Math, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of work experience performing above or related responsibilities in a competitive reputed environment.
- Fluent in Python; comfortable with R, SQL, and cloud-based ML frameworks (e.g., Vertex AI, SageMaker).
- Strong foundation in ML, statistics, and scientific computing including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and multivariate analysis.
- Experience with deep learning and probabilistic models is a plus.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels in a multi-cultural environment.
- Demonstrated ability to solve open-ended problems with minimal direction.
- Note: Probation period of 3 months
- Location: New Delhi or Bengaluru
Optional
- Experience with geospatial tools like QGIS, ArcGIS, and GEE; bonus for remote sensing and EO data analysis.
- Deep awareness of climate change phenomenon and critical understanding of existing and upcoming climate mitigation and adaptation solutions.
- Publication record, Kaggle ranking, or prior startup/build experience preferred.
