Job Summary
The Chief Engineer manages all propulsion and auxiliary machinery systems on a Cutter Suction Dredge. This role works with the Captain to ensure all mechanical systems operate safely and efficiently.
The Chief Engineer leads the engine room crew, arranges repair services, and collaborates with shoreside Maintenance Superintendents to enhance preventive maintenance. This job requires strong technical skills, leadership, and the ability to work in a travel-based rotational environment.
We are seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead vessel engineering operations and ensure safe, compliant, and reliable performance of all mechanical and propulsion systems. This role is responsible for maintenance execution, regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture on board.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and CFR regulations

Lead engine room operations, safety meetings, inspections, and emergency drills

Maintain engine room logs, oil record books, and LOTO documentation

Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance of diesel engines and propulsion systems

Monitor critical equipment performance and fluid systems

Manage critical spare parts inventory and maintenance planning
-
Support shipyard periods and reliability/maintenance meetings

Enforce Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety standards
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

Valid driver's license

TWIC® card orthe ability to obtain

Ability to work a rotational schedule (3 weeks on / 3 weeks off)

Willingness to travel nationwide 100%
Preferred Qualifications

USCG Chief Engineer License

Tankerman PIC Certification
-
Dredging experience
-
EMD and Caterpillar engine training

Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, lube oil, and basic electrical systems
