CNC Machinist – Programmer Position Overview
We are seeking experienced CNC Machinists to machine large, custom components in a job shop environment. This position is ideal for professionals who thrive on machining complex, one-off parts rather than repetitive production work. The successful candidate will have strong setup and machining experience with CNC mills and lathes.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC equipment including 2-axis lathes, 3-axis mills, and 4-axis horizontal boring mills.
- Use precision machinery to perform turning, milling, and boring operations on large custom components with high accuracy and repeatability.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Determine tooling, workholding, and machine setups for large, custom components.
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for 2D, 3-axis milling, 2-axis turning, and boring operations.
- Make program edits and machine adjustments to improve efficiency, accuracy, and part quality.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and engineering specifications.
- Troubleshoot machining and programming issues to maintain productivity.
- Follow all safety and quality standards while meeting production deadlines.
Qualifications
- Proven experience operating CNC equipment including 2-axis lathes, 3-axis mills, and 4-axis horizontal boring mills.
- Capabilities: Ability to perform turning, boring, and multi-axis milling operations on custom, fabricated, and heavy components.
- Strong setup experience machining large, custom, or low-volume components.
- Required: Experience with G-code and/or M-code programming and interpretation for CNC machine control.
- Preferred: Strong proficiency with Mastercam CAD/CAM software, including creating, editing, and optimizing CNC programs for all machine types.
- Experience with CNC program troubleshooting, toolpath optimization, and setup verification.
- Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving skills.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (approximately 50+ hours/week)
- Optional Saturday overtime: 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- Overtime paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate
Compensation
- Pay: $30–$40 per hour, based on experience
