About the job Project Accountant
Position Summary
This role supports the financial management of real estate development projects across their full lifecycle—from acquisition through stabilization. Working closely with accounting leadership, the position provides exposure to senior stakeholders and multi-entity operations. It is ideal for someone detail-oriented, proactive, and interested in owner-side development accounting.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Track and analyze project costs (construction, land acquisition, and development expenses)
- Prepare and support lender and investor reporting, including draw packages and funding documentation
- Monitor project cash flows and identify timing or funding risks
- Review and code invoices, coordinate with accounts payable, and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with audits, including preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests
- Reconcile intercompany accounts across multiple entities
- Contribute to process improvements in accounting workflows and reporting
- Support administrative and accounting tasks as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and development accounting practices
- Experience supporting the full development lifecycle (acquisition through stabilization)
- Familiarity with lender/investor reporting processes
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in owner-side development accounting environments
- Familiarity with construction billing and draw processes
- Experience with real estate accounting systems (e.g., Yardi) and cloud-based platforms (e.g., Intacct)
- CPA or advanced degree (nice to have, not required)
- Experience working in multi-entity or fund-based structures
