Role Overview
The Trusts & Estates Associate supports estate planning, tax planning, and wealth management matters for high-net-worth individuals, families, fiduciaries, and financial institutions. This role involves drafting estate planning documents, administering trusts and estates, and advising clients on complex wealth transfer and succession strategies. The position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and implement estate planning documents, including trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and advance directives.
- Handle estate and trust administration matters, ensuring compliance with applicable legal and tax requirements.
- Prepare and review estate, gift, and income tax returns and related filings.
- Assist in developing and implementing wealth transfer and business succession planning strategies.
- Review legal, financial, and tax documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Manage multiple client matters from intake through completion while meeting deadlines.
- Communicate directly with clients, financial advisors, and internal legal teams to provide updates and guidance.
- Collaborate with support staff and junior attorneys to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) with an active bar license in good standing.
- Minimum of 3+ years of trusts and estates experience in a law firm environment.
- Experience handling sophisticated estate planning and tax matters.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- LL.M. in Taxation preferred.
