Senior Hydrographic Surveyor

Location: Houston, TX
Salary: $85,000–$105,000
Work Setting: Offshore construction vessels
Schedule: Includes after-hours and weekend on-call availability

Role Overview

Lead hydrographic survey teams conducting detailed underwater surveys. Ensure accurate data collection, processing, and reporting to support marine construction, safe navigation, and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate survey operations with project and engineering teams.
  • Provide technical guidance on hydrographic surveying to clients and project stakeholders.
  • Plan surveys around vessel capabilities, environmental conditions, and operational limitations.
  • Use specialized equipment, including multibeam echo sounders and GPS systems, to collect accurate survey data.
  • Supervise offshore survey operations while maintaining safe work practices and compliance with project requirements and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with vessel crews, bridge teams, and offshore client representatives.
  • Manage survey data acquisition, processing, presentation, backup, and submission in required formats.
  • Prepare concise field and operational reports in accordance with project specifications.
  • Maintain survey equipment and inventory controls.
  • Address vessel operations and management issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable radio frequency and statutory regulations.
  • Support emergency procedures, hazard identification, and risk assessment controls.
  • Promote effective teamwork and a positive working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Senior-level experience in hydrographic surveying.
  • Strong knowledge of survey data acquisition, processing, and management systems.
  • Ability to operate and work effectively in an offshore construction vessel environment.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as part of an on-call schedule.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
