Position Summary
We are seeking a commercially astute and operationally grounded Chartering Manager to support our chartering strategy across the Meratus fleet. This role focuses on managing day-to-day chartering activities, assisting with contract negotiations, and ensuring effective coordination between commercial demand and fleet availability.
You will work closely with the Head of Vessel Chartering, Fleet Operations, and Hong Kong Commercial Director to contribute to smooth vessel utilization and effective chartering decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing time charter, voyage charter, and bareboat agreements with domestic and international partners.
- Monitor market trends, freight rates, and vessel availability to support chartering decisions.
- Coordinate closely with Fleet Planning and Commercial teams to align vessel deployment with cargo demand.
- Support vessel scheduling and utilization efforts to maximize operational efficiency and revenue.
- Maintain and foster relationships with shipowners, brokers, agents, and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure chartering contracts comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Legal and Finance teams on contract terms, claims, and settlements as needed.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the chartering team.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Expertise
- 5-10 years of experience in vessel chartering, fleet management, or maritime commercial operations.
- Practical experience in negotiating and managing chartering agreements for container, bulk, or multipurpose vessels.
- Solid understanding of regional trade routes, vessel economics, and port operations in Asia.
- Experience working collaboratively with operational, commercial, and legal teams.
Education & Credentials
- Bachelors degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping Management, Business, or a related field.
- Professional certifications in chartering, shipping law, or marine operations are advantageous.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage various stakeholders.
- Familiarity with chartering platforms, vessel tracking tools, and contract management systems.
- Proficient in English and Mandarin Chinese.
