Job Summary:
The State Police RF Systems Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting radio frequency (RF) communication systems critical to law enforcement operations. This role ensures reliable, secure, and efficient communication across state police networks by monitoring RF infrastructure, conducting signal analysis, and assisting with system integration and upgrades. The technician collaborates with engineering teams and field personnel to maintain optimal network performance and operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, inspect, and repair RF communication infrastructure, including transmitters, receivers, antennas, and repeaters.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in radio communication systems to ensure uninterrupted operational performance.

  • Conduct RF signal analysis and testing to monitor coverage, strength, and system integrity.

  • Assist in the integration of RF systems with existing communication networks, including digital and analog platforms.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, maintenance activities, repairs, and performance metrics.

  • Collaborate with engineers, field technicians, and operational personnel to plan and implement network upgrades or expansions.

  • Monitor compliance with public safety communication standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.

  • Respond to on-site technical issues and emergencies to minimize downtime and support critical law enforcement operations.

  • Stay current with advances in RF technology, telecommunications, and best practices for law enforcement communications systems.

  • Provide technical support and training to staff on proper use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of RF systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.

  • Proven experience working with RF communication systems, antennas, and signal propagation.

  • Knowledge of public safety communication protocols, standards, and regulations.

  • Technical proficiency in RF testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and network monitoring systems.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to maintain detailed records and documentation of RF system activities.

  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork, including climbing towers, handling equipment, and working in varied environments.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with engineers, technicians, and law enforcement personnel.

  • Ability to work independently and respond promptly to critical system issues.
