Job Summary:
The RF Technician is responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of radio frequency (RF) communication equipment to support mission-critical communications systems in public safety, government, or operational environments. This role ensures reliable signal transmission, optimal system performance, and the safety and functionality of RF infrastructure. The RF Technician works closely with engineers, field technicians, and operations staff to maintain and optimize communication networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and repair RF communication equipment, including radios, antennas, transmitters, and receivers.

  • Conduct signal testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve RF performance issues.

  • Support maintenance and inspections of communication towers, antennas, and related infrastructure to ensure operational reliability and safety.

  • Calibrate and maintain RF testing equipment, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and measurement tools.

  • Assist in optimizing signal strength, coverage, and system performance for mission-critical communications networks.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of installation procedures, test results, repairs, and maintenance activities.

  • Collaborate with engineers, IT, and operations teams to implement upgrades, modifications, and system improvements.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, industry standards, and regulatory requirements for RF systems.

  • Respond to urgent service requests and on-site troubleshooting needs to minimize downtime.

  • Stay current on advances in RF technology, telecommunications standards, and best practices for communication systems.

  • Assist with training junior technicians or staff on RF equipment operation, testing, and safety procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience with RF communication systems, antennas, and related testing equipment.

  • Knowledge of radio systems, signal propagation, and RF troubleshooting techniques.

  • Technical training or certification in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field is preferred.

  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills to diagnose and repair RF systems.

  • Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and engineering diagrams.

  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to maintain precise records.

  • Physical ability to work at heights, lift equipment, and perform field installation tasks.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and operational personnel.

  • Ability to work independently in field environments and respond promptly to system issues.
