Job Title: Finance Assistant

Job Summary

  • The Finance Assistant supports the finance team in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and company policies. This role plays a key part in day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and reporting support.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments
  • Prepare and send customer invoices
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments
  • Reconcile supplier and customer statements

Financial Processing & Record Keeping

  • Record financial transactions in accounting systems
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Assist in payroll processing (if required)

Bank & Account Reconciliation

  • Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies

Reporting & Month-End Support

  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reports
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Prepare cash receipts and disbursement reports

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure compliance with Australian financial regulations and internal controls
  • Maintain documentation for audits
  • Assist with BAS (Business Activity Statement) preparation if required

General Support

  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Handle finance-related queries and support inbox
  • Assist in process improvements and system updates

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Accuracy of financial data and entries
  • Timeliness of invoice processing and payments
  • Reconciliation completion rate
  • Turnaround time for financial reports
  • Compliance with financial procedures

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in a similar finance or accounting role
  • Experience with Australian accounting practices (preferred)
  • Familiarity with accounting software (Xero, MYOB, NetSuite, etc.)

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder coordination
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Preferred (Nice to Have)

  • Experience supporting Australian clients or businesses
  • Knowledge of GST and BAS processes
  • Exposure to payroll systems
