The Design Specialist is a pre-sales role focused on engaging directly with customers to deliver solutions across one or more technology towers. This position collaborates with Optus customers and internal stakeholders to develop solutions that address client and prospect business needs.
The role involves designing and pricing solutions based on approved architectures or pricing models, while leveraging Optus toolsets. Acting as a key contributor in the sales engagement process, the Design Specialist works closely with Account Teams and customers to deliver exceptional customer experiences and financial outcomes through technical support and solution design.
Job Description
The Solution Design team is integral to delivering an exceptional customer experience during the sales engagement process. The team’s contributions include:
- Collaborating with customers and internal stakeholders to design solutions aligned with business requirements.
- Designing and pricing solutions using approved architectures and Optus quoting tools.
- Providing advanced expertise on Optus toolsets and guiding customers through solution options.
- Supporting pre-sales processes with accurate and detailed proposals.
- Ensuring solutions meet design intent and adhere to standard delivery models.

Role Objectives
- Support OE sales teams in detailed design, network access qualification, and handover to delivery stages for fixed carriage products.
- Act as the technical lead for OE contemporary WAN solutions, educating customers on transformative capabilities and demonstrating self-serve portals.
- Investigate customer ICT environments and design integration strategies for new services.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on OE products, services, and processes, sharing knowledge with sales teams, customers, and improvement initiatives.
- Managed Network Services (MNS): Support customer solutions by managing modifications, additions, and changes to implemented MNS solutions.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to conduct feasibility studies for connectivity and infrastructure projects.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Demonstrated commitment and proven track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences with a strong service-oriented mindset.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Maintain 100% adherence to compliance and risk training requirements, ensuring operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Support
- Advise sales teams on OE solution options based on customer requirements.
- Conduct demonstrations and convey new possibilities of contemporary WAN services.
- Respond to proactive or tender quoting engagements for carriage components.
Design and Integration
- Collaborate with customers to understand ICT environments and agree on configurations for OE service integration.
- Document configurations in systems for ordering and provisioning.
- Educate customers on self-service portals and decision-making processes.
- Maintain expertise in low-level design for:
- Telecommunications carrier products
- Data, voice, and wireless customer premises equipment (network-centric equipment)
- Contact centre solutions (pre-sales)
- Modular project work to implement updates and changes to Optus managed services
- Use product knowledge and design skills to add technical detail into solutions, proposals, and quotes for standard and non-standard OE products.
- Contribute to customer experience through customer-focused interactions internally and externally.
- Participate in all required meetings as per business requirements.
Team Leadership and Coordination
- Manage pre-sales, post-sales work, and ICT MACs as required.
- Provide ad hoc training to new Design Specialists and Consulting Architects (CAs).
Process and Product Development
- Collaborate with Product Managers to represent the Design Specialist team in new product development, UAT, and process improvements.
- Share updates on product processes and capabilities with stakeholders.
- Attend meetings and workshops on behalf of the team.
Operational Excellence
- Raise and track tickets in Nucleus for documentation and reporting.
- Act as 1st Level of escalation in Manila Team for addressing issues impacting daily activities and team morale.
- Act as a back-up as needed managing dropboxes and assigning work.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge of enterprise ICT environments and WAN architecture.
- Experience in network design, configuration, and integration.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead distributed teams.
- Familiarity with quoting tools and ordering systems.
- Consulting and coaching capabilities to educate customers and internal teams.
- CPQ Expertise: Hands-on experience with CPQ solutions, preferably AMDOCS CPQ platform, to drive efficient and accurate quoting processes.
- Security & Collaboration Tools: Knowledge of security technologies (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto) and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
