About the role:

The role will require a mixture of tasks focusing on supporting the smooth running of our chef development activities. The volunteer will work with the Operations and Chef Development teams.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is keen to gain experience in the social enterprise and charity sector, and also to get to know our amazing team and to make a real difference to the lives of the refugees and migrants we support.

Responsibilities and Duties may include (depending on activities at Migrateful):

Chef Training

  • Shopping for chef training, recipe development, practice/public/corporate classes.

  • Support setting up cookery school for training sessions, open days, classes and interviews.

  • Ensuring the cookery school is adequately clean and all equipment organised before and after training sessions and/or classes.

  • Inventory, cleaning and sorting pantry/fridge in Cookery School.

  • Distributing flyers and posters for chef training recruitment.

Chef Engagement

  • Support Chef Development Team to organise and run chef drop-ins and socials.

  • Update weekly feedback spreadsheet.

Class Documents

  • Support Chef Training Officer with Class Document updates (e.g. recipe updates, allergens, class plans and shopping lists).

  • Attend 1-2 online cookery classes per month to check recipes for accuracy and quality control (these may be on the weekend or evenings)

General support to Chef Development Team or wider Migrateful Team

  • Conducting ad-hoc admin tasks (e.g. reviewing and updating records, printing class material), procurement tasks (e.g. purchasing ingredients), partner venue visits (e.g. checking equipment boxes).

Person Specification:

  • You like working in a cookery school / kitchen environment, where food is omnipresent.

  • You enjoy working with people and are customer focused.

  • You are purposeful and resourceful.

  • You have a can-do attitude and get a kick out of problem solving.

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • You can adapt your communication style based on the stakeholder or situation.

  • You like working independently, taking initiative and completing tasks and projects assigned to you with minimal supervision.
