About the role:

The role will require a mixture of tasks focusing on supporting the smooth running of our chef training and recipe writing process. The volunteer will work with the Operations and Chef Development teams to update and organise our recipe archive.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is keen to gain experience in the social enterprise and charity sector, and also to get to know our amazing team and to make a real difference to the lives of the refugees and migrants we support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Proofreading, testing and checking recipes for accuracy and cooking times.

  • Checking recipes for allergens and creating an allergens matrix for menus.

  • Working with chefs to write new recipes

  • Supporting the chef training program to deliver new recipes

The kind of person were looking for

We are looking for someone who is experienced in writing and testing recipes. You will need to be a problem solver, have a keen eye for detail and enjoy developing and improving our recipe development systems and processes. You will be dealing with some vulnerable people, including chefs for whom working with written recipes will be a new experience, so discretion and sound judgment are critical.

Skills:

Essential

  • Recipe writing experience

  • Excellent written English

  • Great attention to detail

  • Confidence in working with Google Docs

Desirable

  • Recipe development and professional cooking skills

  • Experience working with refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable people

  • Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate

  • Knowledge of allergens and dietary requirements

Time commitment

This voluntary placement would start in Sept 2022. The placement would last for 3 months, this is a flexible role for a suggested time of 3-4 days a week with at least 2 being in the cookery school in Clerkenwell. Travel to our office and lunch expenses will be reimbursed.
