An established and growing operator of long-term care and retirement communities across Ontario is seeking an Executive Director to lead one of its homes. The organization focuses on delivering high-quality care while maintaining strong operational and financial performance.
Reporting to a Regional Director, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall day-to-day leadership and operation of the home. This includes ensuring residents receive safe, high-quality care, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and creating a positive, well-run environment for residents, families, and staff. The role also serves as the main point of contact for external stakeholders, including government and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the home, aligning operations with organizational goals
- Oversee the delivery of resident care and services, ensuring quality, safety, and consistency
- Manage financial performance, including budgeting and cost control
- Lead, support, and develop the management team and staff
- Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, and standards
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including quality and risk management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, families, staff, unions, and community partners
- Represent the home in external meetings and within the broader healthcare community
Qualifications & Experience
- Post-secondary degree (minimum three-year program) or diploma (minimum two-year program) in health or social services.
- Completion of (or enrollment in) a recognized Long-Term Care Administrator certification program
- Valid certification in required safety and compliance training (including fire safety)
- Meets provincial regulatory requirements for Long-Term Care Home Administrators
- At least 3 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, social services, or a comparable environment
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and navigate complex situations
- Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Financial acumen, including budgeting and operational oversight
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, including health and safety standards and long-term care regulations
- A genuine interest in supporting seniors and delivering person-centered care
Additional requirements:
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation
- Successful completion of a vulnerable sector check
- Up-to-date TB screening
Working Environment
- Full-time role, typically Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required
- On-site position with regular interaction across all areas of the home
- On-call responsibilities for urgent or after-hours matters
- Fast-paced environment with competing priorities and decision-making responsibilities
- Occasional travel for meetings or training
