Job Overview

The Senior Production Manager – Bookkeeping is a technically focused leadership role responsible for overseeing the preparation, review, and near-completion of bookkeeping work before final sign-off by the Senior Client Manager. This role combines workflow management, quality assurance, process improvement, and team leadership to ensure high-quality bookkeeping outputs across multiple client accounts.

The ideal candidate will possess strong Australian bookkeeping and compliance knowledge, excellent leadership capabilities, and the ability to mentor and develop team members while maintaining operational efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end bookkeeping production process across multiple client portfolios
  • Review and validate bookkeeping work completed by junior and mid-level team members before final client review
  • Ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency across all bookkeeping deliverables
  • Manage workflow allocation, capacity planning, and job prioritization within the bookkeeping team
  • Monitor deadlines and ensure timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to bookkeeping staff
  • Support team training and development initiatives to improve technical capability and performance
  • Identify process inefficiencies and implement workflow improvements to enhance productivity and quality
  • Review reconciliations, payroll processing, BAS preparation, and management reporting outputs
  • Ensure compliance with Australian accounting and bookkeeping standards, ATO requirements, and payroll regulations
  • Collaborate closely with Senior Client Managers and internal stakeholders regarding workflow status and technical matters
  • Assist in developing internal SOPs, quality control procedures, and operational best practices
  • Support performance management and contribute to building a high-performing bookkeeping team

Requirements

  • 7+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within an Australian accounting or public practice environment
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a leadership, review, or team management role
  • Strong understanding of Australian bookkeeping practices, BAS, payroll, STP, and ATO compliance requirements
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Xero and other cloud-based accounting systems
  • Strong experience reviewing and managing high-volume bookkeeping workflows
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Relevant qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping are preferred
