Responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting Microsoft 365 environments across multiple client platforms. The role focuses on improving modern workplace solutions across identity, devices, collaboration, security, and compliance while providing technical support, automation, and expert guidance to ensure secure and efficient workplace operations.

Microsoft 365 Modern Workplace Engineer – Responsibilities

The Microsoft 365 Modern Workplace Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and supporting Microsoft 365 environments across multiple client platforms. The role focuses on delivering secure, scalable, and efficient modern workplace solutions while providing technical expertise, automation, and continuous improvement.

Microsoft 365 Administration & Operations
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, configurations, and service issues proactively.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, configuration baselines, and operational procedures.
  • Manage changes following governance and ITIL processes.
  • Monitor licensing, capacity, and adoption to improve efficiency and user experience.
Identity & Access Management
  • Manage Microsoft Entra ID, including Conditional Access, MFA, SSO, and privileged access controls.
  • Implement identity governance aligned with security and compliance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot authentication, access, and directory synchronization issues.
  • Maintain consistent and secure identity configurations.
Endpoint & Device Management
  • Manage device provisioning and administration using Microsoft Intune and Windows Autopilot.
  • Develop and maintain device compliance, configuration, and application deployment policies.
  • Improve end-user device experience through automation and optimization.
  • Resolve complex endpoint issues across Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms.
Security & Compliance
  • Implement security controls using Microsoft Defender, Conditional Access, and Secure Score.
  • Manage compliance capabilities including data protection, retention policies, and sensitivity labels.
  • Identify and remediate security risks across Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Support incident response and security improvement initiatives.
Project Delivery & Client Engagement
  • Deliver Microsoft 365 projects including migrations, deployments, and workplace transformations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement effective solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and translate business requirements into secure workplace solutions.
  • Manage multiple priorities across different client environments.
  • Document and transition delivered solutions for ongoing support.
Automation & Continuous Improvement
  • Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and Power Platform.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual processes.
  • Contribute to improving standards, tools, and operational practices.
Technical Escalation & Quality
  • Act as a technical escalation point for complex Microsoft 365 issues.
  • Ensure high-quality, secure, and reliable workplace solutions.
  • Support knowledge sharing and mentor support teams.
  • Continuously improve platform performance, security, and reliability.
Success Measures
  • Microsoft 365 environments are secure, optimized, and consistently maintained.
  • Projects are delivered successfully with minimal disruption.
  • Complex technical issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Identity, device, security, and compliance configurations are well-managed.
