About the job Sr. Software Engineer
About Mission Inbox
Mission Inbox is building the infrastructure layer for outbound email at scale. We help sales teams and platforms send high-volume email reliably with deliverability protections, deep diagnostics, and a modern control plane.
The role
Were hiring a Senior Software Engineer (Remote) to help build and operate Mission Inbox across product + platform + infrastructure. This is an ownership-heavy role for someone who can move between backend systems, internal tooling, and customer-facing product work, and who enjoys shipping improvements that directly impact reliability, deliverability, and revenue.
You will collaborate closely with engineering leadership and senior builders to ship production work quickly, improve system clarity, and raise the bar on operations.
What youll work on
You will support work across the full surface area of the company, including:
- Core platform APIs (TypeScript / NestJS) and service-to-service integrations (auth, billing, events).
- Mission Inbox v4 app (React + TypeScript) to improve the customer experience for domains, mailboxes, health, and billing.
- OBM / sending infrastructure and operational tooling (debugging, incident response, performance, safety).
- Usage + billing foundations (volume-based logic, metering, and clean handoff to Stripe-style billing flows).
- Production operations: deployments, environment configuration, observability, and make it hard to break prod.
Responsibilities
- Own projects end-to-end: design implementation rollout monitoring iteration.
- Build and maintain APIs and services (TypeScript/NestJS, plus Python/Django where needed).
- Contribute to the frontend when needed (React/TypeScript) to ship complete features.
- Debug production issues across code, databases, and infrastructure layers.
- Improve reliability and developer velocity through better tooling, automation, and documentation.
- Collaborate asynchronously as a remote-first teammate: clear written updates, tight handoffs, and predictable execution.
What were looking for
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience (or equivalent).
- Strong backend fundamentals: API design, databases (Postgres), and reliability/performance work.
- Ability to ship pragmatic solutions quickly without sacrificing stability.
- Comfortable working across a multi-language environment (TypeScript primarily, plus some Python/Go).
- Strong debugging instincts and production ownership.
Nice to have (very relevant here)
- Experience with email systems (SMTP concepts, deliverability, bounce/complaint patterns).
- Experience with event-driven systems and high-throughput workloads.
- Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure patterns (DigitalOcean is a plus).
- Experience with Stripe or usage-based billing systems.
Remote working expectations
- This is a fully remote role.
- You can work autonomously, communicate clearly in writing, and maintain momentum without constant meetings.
- Schedule is EST 9am to to 4pm monday to friday.
- $40k per year salary to start
