Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Administrator (L2) to join our IT Infrastructure team. This role will focus on managing and optimizing storage solutions and VMware virtualized environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in storage administration, VMware technologies, and a deep understanding of IT infrastructure management.
Job Description
Storage Management:
- Administer and maintain enterprise-class storage systems (e.g., NetApp, EMC, IBM, etc.)
- Implement storage configurations, backups, and disaster recovery plans
- Monitor storage performance, capacity, and data protection
- Ensure efficient data management through tiered storage, archiving, and de-duplication
- Troubleshoot storage issues and provide proactive solutions to optimize performance
VMware Administration:
- Manage VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines
- Install, configure, and maintain VMware products such as vSphere, vSAN, and vMotion
- Optimize and monitor virtualized environments for performance, availability, and scalability
- Perform regular patch management and firmware upgrades for VMware infrastructure
- Troubleshoot and resolve VMware-related incidents and service requests
Collaboration & Support:
- Provide Level 2 support for storage and VMware-related incidents escalated from Level 1
- Work closely with the broader IT team to ensure seamless integration between storage and virtualization solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement infrastructure changes and upgrades
- Assist in capacity planning and scalability projects based on business needs
Security & Compliance:
- Ensure storage systems and VMware environments adhere to security best practices and organizational policies
- Participate in regular audits to maintain compliance with industry standards and internal security protocols
- Implement and manage backup and recovery solutions for both virtual machines and data storage
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all storage and VMware configurations
- Generate regular performance reports and troubleshooting logs.
- Create standard operating procedures (SOPs) and knowledge base articles for internal use
Training & Development:
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior administrators (L1)
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to storage and VMware
Person Specification
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 03 - 05 years of experience in storage administration and VMware management
- Extensive experience with storage technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, iSCSI, NFS, Fibre Channel)
- Expertise in VMware vSphere and associated technologies (vCenter, vMotion, vSAN, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments
- Experience with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and capacity planning
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation tasks is a plus
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- VMware vSphere certification (VCP-DCV or higher)
- Storage certifications (e.g., NetApp, EMC, IBM, etc.)
- Familiarity with cloud technologies and hybrid cloud integrations (AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Experience with storage and virtualization monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, vRealize Operations)
- Knowledge of ITIL processes and frameworks
