Primary Purpose
The Commis is responsible for assisting in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of food and beverages under the guidance of senior kitchen or service staff. This role ensures that cleanliness, food safety, and quality standards are maintained in all food & beverage operations. The Commis may work in either the kitchen (back-of-house) or service areas (front-of-house), depending on the establishments needs.
Responsibilities:
Kitchen Duties (Back-of-House):
- Assist in basic food preparation (chopping, peeling, measuring ingredients).
- Support chefs in preparing dishes according to recipes and standards.
- Ensure cleanliness of kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Store food items properly and follow FIFO procedures.
- Assist in receiving, unpacking, and storing supplies.
- Follow all food hygiene and safety standards.
- Help in setting up workstations and mise en place.
Service Duties (Front-of-House):
- Assist in setting up dining areas before service.
- Provide support in serving food and beverages.
- Clear tables and maintain cleanliness in the dining area.
- Refill water, bread, and condiments as needed.
- Assist guests in a polite and friendly manner.
Qualifications:
- High School Certificate or Certificate in Food Production/Culinary Arts from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role (Kitchen Helper) in a hotel or restaurant.
- Basic Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Ability to communicate in English and French is an advantage
