About the job Head of Agri Business
Primary Purpose
The role of the Head of Agri Business is to manage profitably the agricultural cluster of the Mont Choisy Group including cane cultivation, nursery, chassé and poultry farming. The job holder is responsible for ensuring that all agricultural operations are managed effectively and within agreed budgets. The job incumbent is called upon to propose strategies for the optimal exploitation and use of available land.
Agricultural Activities
- Elaborate a strategic plan for the development of the agricultural cluster in terms of diversification of the production, increase in turnover and profitability and strategic investments. This strategic planning must be done in collaboration with the land development team.
- Organize and supervise all aspects of the sugarcane production, including best agronomic practices, replantation program, harvesting schedule, varieties, fertilizers, herbicide program and irrigation.
- Elaborate cultural practices in line with a totally mechanized agricultural environment.
- Ensure that tractors, equipment and irrigation systems are properly operated and maintained.
- Negotiate the best deals with suppliers and service providers in line with the group procurement policy guidelines and ethical practices.
- Ensure a close follow up of the poultry and chassé activities with the staff and supervisors involved.
- Initiate strategical thinking about the development of the poultry activity with a view of making it a profitable enterprise whilst ensuring all safety and health measures are implemented and followed
- Represent the agricultural cluster to pertinent partners and institutions; e.g., MCIA, IA, Chamber of agriculture etc.
Financial Management
- Prepare a detailed annual and monthly budget for all agricultural business activities.
- Follow up of the profitability of the cluster, identify and implement corrective measures as appropriate.
- Assess organizational performance against both the annual budget and Companys long-term
- strategy
- Present the budget and monthly performance to senior management
- Attend to queries of auditors External and Internal.
People Management
- Develop and manage the Team by
- Enforcing discipline, ethical practices and code of conduct to subordinates.
- Participating in recruitment and selection of the right workers as and when required.
- Conducting effective performance appraisal of subordinates in a transparent and fair manner using the groups standard format and KPIs setting.
- Ensuring that the responsibilities, authorities and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
- Actively participating in the training of workers whilst ensuring that there is always a back-up plan in cases of urgencies
- Promote an effective organizational structure with a positive internal climate.
Administration
- Effective compiling and administration of employees payroll data
- Ensure all pertinent information and data are monitored for management reference and renewal of permits as appropriate within set time frames
- Organise regular awareness and sensitisation campaign with workers on health and safety measures and precautions to be taken whilst at work
- Keep proper records of Health & Safety requirements and follow up on any accident at work
- Oversee the proper maintenance of the buildings and be the point of contact for all the suppliers.
Risk Management
- Establish a proper risk assessment register for all activities concerned by identifying potential risks, measuring likely occurrences and impact and steps to be taken to mitigate these risks
- Liaise with the Legal and Compliance Team with regard to the Risk Register for all potential risks which may affect the group collaterally.
Management reports
- Ensure regular reporting on the business activities in terms of highlights and issues with appropriate figures where necessary and recommend corrective actions.
Qualification:
- Degree in Agriculture or equivalent
Competencies Required:
- Good knowledge of cane cultivation in a mechanized environment.
- Practical knowledge and experience in a number of other agricultural crops.
- Mechanized agriculture and maintenance of equipment
- Post-harvest handling of fruits and vegetables

Experience:
Minimum of 7 years experience in a management position within an agricultural activity
