Position Overview
We're seeking a mid-level business development professional with the discipline, curiosity, and strategic mindset to hunt and convert new business opportunities with a focus on qualified prospects outside the state of Alabama. This is a hunter-first role, ideal for someone who understands agency offerings and can translate that knowledge into smart, relevant pitches that resonate with prospective clients.
You'll be responsible for identifying promising leads, mapping key decision-makers and influencers, and shaping thoughtful approaches that reflect both the prospect's needs and the agency's strengths. You must be able to think strategically, communicate clearly, and adapt your approach to each opportunity with confidence and insight.
What You'll Do
- Proactively identify and pursue qualified new business leads, focusing on national (non-Alabama) markets
- Research and target organizations that align with the agency's offerings and values
- Understand organizational structures, key decision-makers, and purchase motivators for each prospect
- Shape the outreach strategy on what to sell, how to position it, and how to overcome objections
- Collaborate with leadership and subject matter experts to tailor thoughtful, compelling proposals and pitches
- Articulate the full scope of the agency's services, including brand strategy, design, content, media, public relations, public affairs, and workforce campaigns
- Lead early sales communications and prospect engagement, from initial outreach through to proposal submission
- Track, report, and manage opportunities using a structured CRM or pipeline system
- Represent the agency at relevant events, conferences, or meetings to build relationships and open doors
What You Bring
- 2-6 years of experience in business development, sales, or client engagement, preferably within a creative, marketing, or communications agency
- A proven ability to hunt and close new business, particularly through outbound efforts
- Strategic instincts and a strong understanding of how to position agency services based on client challenges and buying behaviors
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, you know how to craft a smart pitch and hold a thoughtful conversation
- Ability to work independently and proactively build a pipeline without waiting for leads to come to you
- Confidence working across industries and adapting messaging to different types of decision-makers
- Familiarity with marketing and communications trends, and a strong grasp of what makes creative work effective
- Willingness to travel occasionally for in-person meetings, conferences, or client visits
Role Details
- Location: Remote (U.S.-based), with a strong preference for candidates who have worked nationally, ideally based in large city in Central or Eastern time zone (Chicago, DC. etc.)
- Travel: Occasional, as needed for meetings and events
- Compensation: Competitive salary + performance-based incentives
