About the job Diesel Mechanic (Emergency Vehicle Technician)
Diesel Mechanic / Emergency Vehicle Technician
Fruitport, Michigan (on-site — must be within a reasonable daily commute)
Who this role is for
You're a heavy-duty diesel mechanic who already works on fire apparatus, ambulances, or other emergency vehicles — or you're a strong Class 6–8 / heavy-equipment diesel tech who wants to move into EVT work and will get certified.
You diagnose first, repair right the first time, and take it personally when a truck is down. You can work from prints, schematics, and digital service info. You're comfortable with diesel engines, pumps, hydraulics, air brakes, electrical, and body/chassis work — and you don't need someone standing over you to stay productive.
What you'll do
- Diagnose and repair emergency apparatus and related manufacturing / shop equipment
- Service diesel engines, fire pumps, drivetrains, electrical systems, brakes, and hydraulics
- Repair or replace components as needed; modify apparatus when the work calls for it
- Perform preventive maintenance to keep engines, pumps, and equipment in service
- Complete required annual testing on emergency apparatus
- Read diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and OEM technical manuals
- Use digital service documentation and diagnostic tools to find faults and verify repairs
- Report findings clearly and keep the supervisor in the loop when it matters
What you bring
Required
- Valid driver's license and ability to commute to Fruitport, MI daily
- Hands-on diesel / heavy-duty mechanical experience (2+ years preferred)

- Willingness to obtain EVT certification if you don't already have it
Strongly preferred
- EVT certification (Fire Apparatus and/or Ambulance tracks — F1/F3/F4 etc.)
- Michigan Motor Vehicle Mechanic Certificate (or equivalent)
- Experience on fire pumps, aerials, foam systems, emergency lighting/electrical, or similar apparatus
- Heavy-duty diesel background: Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, Allison, air brakes, hydraulics

- You make sound repair decisions and know when to escalate
- You communicate clearly — good work, no surprises
