Library/Movement Teacher, Gardening Assistant

 Job Description:

Join Our Inspiring Team as our Elementary Library & Movement Class Educator and Gardening Assistant at Mountain Sage Community School!

Mountain Sage Community School, a Waldorf-inspired public charter school serving grades K-8, is excited to welcome a passionate and dedicated educator to lead our unique Elementary Library & Movement Class and assist in our gardening initiatives. If you're committed to fostering a love of reading, mindful movement, and engagement with the school library, while also nurturing our students' connection to nature, we want to hear from you!

At Mountain Sage, we embrace the principles of Waldorf education, creating enriching experiences that nurture the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of our students. As our Elementary Library & Movement Class Educator and Gardening Assistant, you'll play a critical role in integrating storytelling, movement practices, and library management while guiding students in hands-on gardening activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Class Planning and Delivery: Plan and lead 45-minute classes that include reading thoughtfully selected stories, guiding students through movement sequences with yoga and eurythmy-inspired exercises, and assisting students in checking out books while fostering responsible library use.

Library Management: Manage and oversee all school library operations, including organizing and maintaining the library collection, assisting students and faculty with book selection and research, and collaborating with community volunteers to support library initiatives.

Gardening Activities: Assist in the planning and execution of gardening projects, teaching students about plant growth, sustainability, and the importance of gardening in the community. Encourage hands-on learning by involving students in planting, maintaining, and harvesting garden produce. These responsibilities occur throughout the year, so availability in the summer months is a requirement.

Creating a Nurturing Environment: Cultivate a warm, engaging, and structured learning environment that aligns with Waldorf pedagogy, promoting a love of reading, movement, and nature.

Who You Are: In addition to the required qualifications (below), the ideal candidate will bring:

  • A passion for storytelling, movement, literacy development, and gardening.
  • A collaborative spirit, able to warmly engage with colleagues, students, and parent volunteers to enhance student success.
  • A commitment to continuous professional growth and improving educational practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, sustainability, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in a Waldorf school or familiarity with Waldorf education principles.
  • Background in yoga, eurythmy, or movement-based education.
  • Library experience, library management, and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of gardening practices and a passion for teaching students about nature.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, students, and parents.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A valid Colorado teaching license with an elementary school endorsement or appropriate subject area certification.

Compensation and Hours

The hours in this position are largely dependent on the season, as well as the academic schedule. We are currently estimating approximately 27 teaching hours/week, 5-8 gardening hours/week, and 5 hours supporting lead teachers during main lesson, to round this out to a full-time position. The summer months will include weekly gardening hours as well. Salary will be based on education, relevant experience, and responsibilities associated with each role.

We offer state retirement benefits (PERA), health benefits, and paid time off.
