Job Overview
The Training Specialist is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating learning and development interventions that improve employee competence and performance. The role supports onboarding and operational training, coordinates training with external service providers, implements blended learning solutions, and ensures SETA compliance through accurate training records and the submission of the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and Annual Training Report (ATR). Where accredited, the Training Specialist conducts facilitation, assessment and moderation aligned to relevant SETA requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Qualification in Education, Human Resource Development, Organisational Development or related field (Bachelor of Education preferred but not mandatory).
- 3–5 years' experience in training / learning and development, ideally in a retail, automotive, technical or multi-branch environment.
- Accredited Assessor, Moderator and Facilitator (EDTP SETA or equivalent) or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
- Demonstrated experience preparing WSP/ATR submissions and maintaining SETA compliance evidence (advantage).
- Experience developing training material and delivering facilitated learning (classroom and virtual).
- Working knowledge of e-learning tools/LMS basics and blended learning delivery.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong facilitation, presentation and group management skills.
- Content design and instructional design capability (adult learning principles; practical, workplace-based learning).
- Ability to adapt content for different learning styles and varying technical literacy levels.
- Competence in conducting assessments, compiling evidence and maintaining quality assurance standards for accredited learning.
- Sound planning, organisation and scheduling skills; able to manage multiple interventions across branches.
- Analytical capability to interpret training data and identify trends, gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills to build credibility with operational teams and external providers.
- High attention to detail and record-keeping discipline (attendance, evidence files, training records, compliance documentation).
- Time management with ability to meet hard deadlines (including SETA submission dates).
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook); comfortable using digital platforms for training delivery.
