Lead Engineer, T&I - SURF Installation

Role Purpose:
The Lead Engineer, T&I will be responsible for overseeing the installation, testing, and commissioning of subsea infrastructure, including pipelines, risers, and umbilical, in a deepwater oil and gas project. The role involves leading engineering activities related to the design, installation, and integrity of subsea systems that integrate with the FPSO unit. The Lead Engineer, T&I will ensure safe and efficient installation of the SURF systems while managing contractor performance and compliance with project specifications, schedules, and budget.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead the design, installation, and commissioning of SURF infrastructure, including pipelines, risers, umbilicals, and associated equipment
- Ensure SURF systems comply with technical specifications, industry standards (e.g., DNV, API), and safety regulations
- Oversee detailed engineering activities to maintain integrity and performance of subsea assets throughout their lifecycle
- Develop and implement installation strategies and execution plans, including SIMOPS and coordination with marine, fabrication, and installation teams
- Ensure installation activities are executed in line with project schedules, with focus on resource allocation and risk management
- Supervise offshore installation activities, including pipe-laying, riser installation, subsea tie-ins, and commissioning
- Manage contractors and vendors to ensure compliance with contract terms, safety standards, and project requirements
- Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies, while leading HAZID/HAZOP sessions and supporting safety reviews
- Provide technical support and lead troubleshooting during construction, installation, and commissioning phases
- Ensure quality assurance and compliance through inspections, audits, and reporting of KPIs, progress, risks, and corrective actions
Qualifications include but are not limited to the following:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline)
- A Master's Degree in Engineering is a plus
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in subsea pipeline, riser, and umbilical installation within the oil and gas industry
- With a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record of overseeing and managing subsea installation projects, particularly in deepwater and FPSO environments
- Hands-on experience with offshore installation activities, including pipelay operations, riser installation, and subsea tie-ins
Skills:
- Knowledge
- Strong understanding of offshore construction and installation processes, including the management of marine operations and offshore contractors
- Extensive knowledge of subsea infrastructure, including pipelines, risers, umbilicals, and associated equipment used in deepwater oil and gas projects
- In-depth understanding of industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., DNV, API, ASME) related to SURF installation and pipeline design
- Strong understanding of subsea engineering principles and the integration of subsea systems with FPSO or offshore platforms
2. Soft & Hard Skills
- Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and contractors
- Proficiency in subsea installation software and tools (e.g., pipe-lay simulation software, installation analysis tools)
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges early and implement effective solutions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with cross-functional teams and contractors
- Familiarity with subsea installation techniques, including pipelay methods, riser installation, and subsea tie-ins
