ROLE PURPOSE:

  • Provide geophysical works to define exploration prospects and technical material preparation to support achievement of geophysical operation effectively, timely and efficiently.
  • Ensure high quality seismic interpretation and prospect generation including economics follow up.
  • The Senior Geophysicist must work effectively within an integrated team, maintaining open communications with peers, with a common sense of purpose. He/she should use their expertise to influence and impact peers within their section, in addition to mentoring staff in geophysical aspects as appropriate. Roles at this level demonstrate critical thinking abilities and show confidence in executing assigned tasks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures

  • Recommend improvements to departmental procedure and direct the implementation of instructions and controls covering a specific area of geophysics activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service.

Seismic Acquisition & Processing

  • Prepare contract specification for pre/post bid technical evaluation; manage QC, etc in Mubadala Energy Malaysia working areas.
  • Define the seismic processing flow and seismic acquisition parameters in order to develop the scope of work and develop the quality control processes for each step. Provide monitoring and supervision during the execution of the activities.

Seismic Interpretation & Mapping

  • § Perform full advanced seismic interpretation in 2D/3D data such as horizon, fault picking, and attribute generation in line with the exploration department requirements.
  • Velocity modelling and depth conversion, uncertainties evaluation.

Geophysical Characterization and advanced Geophysical Tools

  • Seismic data QC and conditioning for QI work.
  • Perform the advance QI work as a linkage from petrophysics to rock physic such as elastic log estimation, log crossplotting, post and pre-stack inversion.
  • Performed the AVO modelling and generate the AVO volumes.
  • Provide direct hydrocarbon indicators based on the AVO for effective decision making process related to exploration tasks.

Seismic Sequence Stratigraphy

  • Apply knowledge and methodology of seismic sequence stratigraphic analysis across a broad range of depositional environments and structural settings.

Prospect Generation and Evaluation

  • Defining trap and reservoir properties.
  • Provide the depth converted map to enable calculation of hydrocarbon volumes
  • Assess and evaluate the risking input from geophysical point of view of the prospects.

Drilling Operations

  • Provide support in drilling preparation activities and pre-drill studies such as providing the well markers, well velocity, and lithology prediction.
  • Provide support in well monitoring especially during geophysical data acquisition.
  • Seismic to well tie, depth prognosis and calibration.
  • Generate technical document reports of pre/post drilling for wells in Mubadala Energy working areas.

New Ventures / New Business Development

  • Assist the Malaysia BU and New Ventures team in identifying and assessing/evaluating new ventures or blocks as required, which includes farm-ins, extensions or bid rounds/awards.

Reservoir Management Program

  • Coordinate with G&G and reservoir engineers to optimize reservoir management program for effective handling of field reserves.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the identification of opportunities for
  • continuous improvement of geophysical unit systems, processes and practices taking into account international best practice, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

Internal & External Relations

  • Prepare geophysical presentation, reports, and present in internal and external of the company to obtain necessary approvals.
  • Present the geophysical works in internal and external of company which includes TCM/MCM/SOCM and other related engagements.

Supervision & Mentoring of Subordinates

  • Organise, supervise and perform QA/QC on the activities and work of subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific area of the geophysical unit activity is carried out in an efficient manner and consistent with operating procedures and policy.

Budgeting

  • Contribute to the preparation of the Geophysical unit budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget to facilitate adherence to unit's goals & objectives as required.

HSSE

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management procedures and controls within the team to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality products/service and a responsible environmental attitude.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Knowledge:

  • A Bachelors degree in Geosciences, Geology or Geophysics. An advanced degree is preferable.
  • Extensive experience in seismic data interpretation and mapping as well as velocity modeling and TWT to depth conversion techniques.
  • Experience with New Ventures evaluations. Ability to work across both exploration and development projects.
  • Ability to frame and manage work program and budget relevant to role.
  • In depth knowledge of the Oil and Gas business. Sound awareness of the local and international factors that affect the Oil and Gas E&P business.

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the Oil & Gas company as a Geophysicist. The holder should have considerable experience in both Exploration and Development geophysics, reservoir mapping, seismic interpretation, prospect generation and evaluation, and should have participated in drilling many wells.
  • International experience is essential, and SE Asian exploration and development experience is considered to be a plus.

Skills:

  • Advanced geophysical skills covering seismic interpretation from time to depth, prospect generation, in depth knowledge of QI and rock physics, and experience in seismic acquisition and processing QC.
  • Observation, pattern recognition, analytic, visualisation, and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent structural and stratigraphic interpretation skills.
  • G & G software skills, with expert computer skills in own expertise area.
  • Conceptual thinking.
  • Working knowledge of QI and Volume interpretation techniques.
  • Ability to interface and work with other team members and ability to provide necessary inputs to geological and basin modeling projects.
  • Planning and resource allocation skills.
  • IT skills and project management skill.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills. Ability to express ideas clearly both orally and in writing are also important. Able to mentor junior staff in geophysical works.
