Role Purpose:
The Manager, Communications leads all communications activities in the Indonesia Business Unit, including corporate branding, media relations, internal and external communications, and government protocol matters. The role develops and executes strategies aligned with Mubadala Energys direction and business objectives to enhance the companys reputation and stakeholder engagement. Acting as a key advisor to leadership, the Manager provides timely insights on media, regulatory, and geopolitical issues while overseeing crisis communications and maintaining strong relations with government and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a member of the Indonesia Leadership Team, contributing to business direction and managing daily operations and communications-related issues.
- Develop and implement the Communications strategy and annual plan aligned with corporate and Indonesia BU objectives.
- Provide strategic counsel to the Indonesia Leadership Team and Corporate Communications on key issues affecting reputation, regulatory changes, and media trends.
- Lead, coach, and develop the communications team to deliver high-quality performance, foster capability growth, and ensure achievement of individual and departmental goals.
Policies, Systems, and Governance
- Ensure adherence to Mubadala Energys Communications standards, policies, and Code of Ethics.
- Develop, implement, and maintain communications processes, protocols, and procedures in line with corporate and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Monitor policy and procedural effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and compliance with local and global standards.
Internal and External Communications
- Oversee and prepare internal and external communications, including messaging, press materials, announcements, articles, and presentations in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Provide communications guidance and advice on strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate messaging and branding.
- Collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to manage reputational issues and support new and ongoing business activities.
Corporate Image and Crisis Communications
- Strengthen and promote Mubadala Energy's corporate image and reputation in Indonesia through effective stakeholder engagement and media strategies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for local media, ensuring inquiries are managed in line with Mubadala Energy's media policy.
- Lead crisis communications readiness, including maintenance of the Crisis Communications Manual, team preparedness, and coordination with PR agencies.
Government Relations and Protocol
- Ensure observance of cultural norms and government protocols in all engagements and correspondence with Indonesian authorities.
- Develop and sustain relationships with government agencies, embassies, and relevant institutions to support business objectives and facilitate regulatory processes.
- Coordinate internal departments in managing official communication and documentation with government entities.
HSSE Commitment
- Comply with all Mubadala Energy HSSE policies, standards, and procedures.
- Actively demonstrate and promote HSSE leadership in all communications activities and projects.
- Participate in HSSE initiatives and contribute to achieving corporate HSSE objectives.
Reporting & Insights
- Provide regular updates to the Indonesia Leadership Team on key geopolitical, media, and regulatory developments.
- Deliver data-driven insights and reports on communications effectiveness, stakeholder engagement, and public perception.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Minimum bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Mass Media, International Relations, or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, or external affairs, with at least 5 years in the oil & gas or energy sector leading a communications or government relations team.
- Proven track record in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and corporate branding initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in managing crisis communications, including readiness planning and issue response.
- Hands-on experience liaising with government bodies, embassies, and regulatory agencies.
- Exposure to developing and implementing communication strategies that align with business and corporate objectives.
Technical & Management Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
- Strong leadership, team management, and coaching abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiarity with digital media tools.
- Strong project management, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate business goals into effective communication plans.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and integrity.
