A well-established civil construction company is seeking a competent and driven Site Engineer to join our project delivery team on a major civil infrastructure project. This is a hands-on, site-based role suited to a technically strong engineer who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and takes pride in delivering quality work on time and within budget.

Qualifications:

  • BSc / BEng / BTech / National Diploma in Civil Engineering (essential)
  • ECSA registration as Candidate Engineer or Professional Engineer / Pr. Tech (advantageous)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 to 8 years of site-based civil construction experience
  • Demonstrated experience on bulk earthworks, civil structures, or civil infrastructure projects
  • Exposure to construction contracts — JBCC, NEC, or GCC (advantageous)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • Experience with programme scheduling tools such as MS Project or Candy (advantageous)
  • Valid Code B driver's licence (essential)
  • Willingness to be based on site and travel as required
  • Physically fit and able to work in an active site environment
  • Honest, reliable, and team-orientated with good communication skills across all levels
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative under pressure

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage day-to-day site construction activities in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and contract requirements
  • Ensure all works comply with applicable SANS standards, the OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993), and client HSE requirements
  • Monitor and control quality through implementation of QA/QC procedures, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Conduct and record Daily Safe Task Instructions (DSTIs), Planned Task Observations (PTOs), and risk assessments
  • Maintain accurate site records including daily diaries, work lists, restraint lists, material delivery records, and as-built drawings
  • Prepare and manage 2-week look-ahead programmes and contribute to the overall construction programme
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, surveyors, and other site disciplines to ensure efficient workflow
  • Manage and supervise site labour, ensuring productivity targets and quality standards are met
  • Identify and report construction non-conformances and assist in their resolution
  • Liaise professionally with the client, consultant, and relevant stakeholders on site matters
  • Assist with or lead the compilation of progress reports, cost tracking, and variation documentation
  • Manage material take-offs from AFC drawings and coordinate timely procurement of materials
  • Ensure effective housekeeping and environmental compliance on site at all times
