The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and models to support design, fabrication, and manufacturing operations. Minimum Requirements:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric) with Mathematics and/or Engineering Graphics & Design (Technical Drawing)
- N4/N5 Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice (MDDOP) or equivalent SAQA-accredited draughting qualification
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Mechanical Draughtsman in a manufacturing, engineering, or fabrication environment – Essential
- Proven experience producing both 2D and 3D mechanical drawings
- Experience with sheet metal, piping, or plant layout drawings – Advantageous
- Workshop or site exposure – Beneficial
- National Diploma or Higher Certificate in Mechanical Engineering / Draughting
- QCTO- or MerSETA-accredited qualification
- Autodesk Certified User certification (AutoCAD / Inventor)
- AutoCAD 2D – Advanced proficiency required
- Autodesk Inventor – 3D modelling
- SolidWorks – 3D modelling
- Microsoft Office – Word and Excel
- Autodesk Vault – Document management system
- SolidEdge or Fusion 360
- Autodesk Revit or Plant 3D
- MECAD – or similar draughting software
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical engineering drawings, general arrangements, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings using CAD software
- Develop and maintain accurate 3D models, parts lists (BOMs), and drawing registers in line with company standards
- Interpret engineering specifications, technical data, and verbal instructions from engineers to translate into accurate, manufacturing-ready drawings
- Ensure all drawings comply with SANS 1011, BS 308 draughting standards and relevant industry codes
- Liaise with workshop, procurement, and project teams to ensure drawings are fit-for-purpose
- Manage and maintain the drawing office document management system (e.g. Autodesk Vault) and drawing version control
- Support continuous improvement in draughting quality, accuracy, and drawing office processes
Standards, Compliance & Legal Requirements
- Working knowledge of SANS 1011 (drawing office procedures) and BS 308 draughting standards
- Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements within a drawing office context
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act 85 of 1993) and Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) where applicable
- SAQA-recognised qualification essential; MerSETA registration or ECSA-aligned credentials advantageous
- Valid South African ID or valid work authorisation / work permit
- Valid Code 08 driver's licence with own reliable transport
