We are looking for a dedicated and qualified Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant to join our client business. In this role you will support the responsible pharmacist in delivering high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care in line with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards and within the legal scope of practice as defined by the SAPC and the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974

Qualifications

  • FETC: Pharmacist Assistance (NQF 4) from SAPC-accredited provider 
  • Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Life / Physical Science 
  • Occupational Certificate: Pharmacist's Assistant Post-Basic [Advantageous]
  • SAPC Registration
  • Current SAPC registration as a Post-Basic Pharmacist Assistant 
  • Registration must be in good standing — no pending disciplinary matters [Required]
  • Certified proof of current-year SAPC registration to be submitted with application [Required]

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year post-qualification experience in a retail, community or hospital pharmacy 
  • Dispensary and front-shop customer service experience
  • Experience with pharmacy management systems (e.g. Unisolv, RxNova, Pen Dispensary)

Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation and GPP standard
  • Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail in dispensing 
  • Excellent verbal communication and patient counselling skills
  • Computer literacy — MS Office and pharmacy dispensary software 
  • Bilingual: English plus at least one additional SA official language 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Dispense Schedule 1–4 medicines accurately under the direct supervision of the responsible pharmacist, in accordance with SAPC regulations.
  • Read, interpret and prepare prescriptions; select, manipulate, label and supply medicines in appropriate containers per approved SOPs.
  • Assist with the compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulae and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
  • Control and manage Schedule 1–5 medicine stock, including receiving, storage, picking, packing and stock counting, ensuring cold-chain integrity.
  • Report Schedule 6 prescriptions, stock shortages, damages and near-expiry items to the responsible pharmacist immediately.
  • Provide accurate, evidence-based information to patients on Schedule 0–2 products to promote rational medicine use and general health.
  • Deliver excellent customer service; address patient queries within scope of practice and escalate clinical questions to the pharmacist.
  • Maintain dispensary cleanliness and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Complete all required CPD activities and maintain SAPC registration in good standing at all times.
